Signed For
Signed for is a postal service that is offered by the majority of courier services and also by the Royal Mail. This service sometimes costs more than regular postal services and it provides a certain level of cover for the postal sender. The basis of the service is relatively simple, the sender of a letter or parcel chooses that they want a signed for service and the receiver of the letter or parcel must sign for it when they receive it. This is a simple way of the postal sender being aware that the recipient has received the item that has been sent in the postal service.
The signed for service is ideal to use in order to establish whether someone has received a parcel or not. This service is commonly used by people who have made sales on eBay and are sending items to people they do not know personally. In some cases the sender will receive a tracking number for the item that is being sent; this tracking number is used in order to track the process of the delivery. The tracking number can be checked on a tracking website and it is also usually supplied to the recipient of the item so that they can also check the status of the delivery.
Most professional couriers services will provide a signed for service as part of their regular services. The receiver of a delivery will have to sign to say they have received the item. The signature that is provided on the delivery receipt does not necessarily have to be from the actual recipient of the item it can be from anybody within the household. Whoevers signs for the delivery will accept the responsibility for passing the delivery on to the correct person.
In order to obtain this service from the Royal Mail there will usually be an extra charge; people who are sending an item that has a reasonable value are recommended to use this service. The signed for service with the Royal Mail can be purchased on its own or part as the Special Delivery service. By using the signed for service the sender will receive insurance cover from the postal company if the item is not to be delivered. Whilst there is usually an extra cost for the signed for service it is usually advisable to use it, as with other services there is not always any insurance cover offered.
